Thalicha kelangu...Tadke wala tapioca...

Tapioca is a good participant in meals to provide a significant amount of dietary fiber. This takes the path towards providing us a healthier lifestyle. Being low in cholesterol and fats but richer in starch and carbohydrates it helps in healthy weight gain. We include it as a part of our breakfast menu or sometimes in our evening tea-time snack menu. Healthy to eat and using less oil makes me prefer this a lot of times

This recipe is simple and has been the same from my grandmothers time. My mother followed it and now am too in the line

Serves... 2 ppl
Serve option... Hot

This is what u'll need....

Tapioca root - 1/2 kg
Oil - 1 tbspn
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Broken urad dal - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - 10-12
Red chillies - 2
Grated coconut - 2 tbspn
Salt to taste

Here is the stir....
  • Wash and peel the skin of tapioca root. Wash again and cut the tapioca into small cubes. Rinse well with water and toss it into a pressure cooker
  • Add little water to fairly submerge the pieces. Sprinkle a little salt and cover the cooker. Let it pressure cook for upto 2 whistles. Slow down the flame and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Turn off the flame and let the pressure go down
  • Pour it into a strainer and let the water drain off completely. No need to press it down here
  • Heat a pan with a tablespoon of oil. When the oil gets hot add mustard seeds followed by broken urad dal. When urad dal turns golden brown, add whole red chillies broken into halves and curry leaves
  • Grind coconut to a little powdery texture without adding any water
  • Add 2 tablespoons of coconut to the tadka. Stir it for a few seconds and add the cooked tapioca to this
  • Gently press and mix the tapioca so that it mashes up a little and blends well with the tadka
  • Turn off the flame and transfer it to a serving bowl
  • Serve hot and enjoy

Note:
  • Dont mash up the entire meal. It tastes best when a few pieces are mashed and few as is
  • Add salt if needed during tadka
