Spicy potato wedges.. my kids favorite

Potato wedges, smileys, french fries ... name any such junk and kids are sure to love it. Its not a problem with the kids but it a problem with mother nature that she blesses us with delicious potatoes that no one can ever resist. Just kidding, we are so blessed by mother nature that it helps mothers like me to fix happy meals for her kids in no time :) Fry it, roast it, bake it, mash it ... anyway you try, it will sure make a pleasant hit at the table. Kids and elders everyone loves it but we sure restrict thinking about the calories we might put on. Its ok for kids once in a while to enjoy their favorite snack in their favorite way.My kids are so much in love with this that they ask for it every time we go out. So its a favorite timepass anywhere around.

I dont add too many spices to this recipe as it calls for little ones every time to be the fool-proof testers ;) You can pick to add whatever spices you like to bring out your favorite flavors. We love garlic and cumin so I have stuck to that for a while now. Here is my simple, easy to make, fool-proof, yum-yum recipe that will help your kiddos enjoy their snack time in a happily yummy way

Serves... 2-3 kids
Serve option... Hot with ketchup

This is what u'll need....

Potato - 2 big
Garlic - 2-3 big cloves
Cumin powder - 1/2 tspn
Red Chilli powder - a pinch(optional)
Chilli flakes - 1/2 tspn
Oil - 1 tbspn
Salt to taste

Here is the stir....
  • Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut each potato lengthwise into 8 wedges so we have 16 wedges in total
  • Add water to a pan and toss in the potatoes along with a little salt. Put this on high flame and bring to a boil. Reduce the flame and simmer for 8-10 minutes. We want the wedges to get soft but dont want to get them mashed up. Try using a fork to pierce a piece. If it goes thru without much pressure then it should be ready
  • Drain the water using a strainer and keep the wedges aside for a few minutes to get a little dry
  • While they dry, place a pan on low flame and pour oil. Peel and grate garlic cloves. Now toss them into the oil and let it cook for a few mins. Let the aroma come out and get filling the air. Add chilli flakes, cumin powder, red chilli powder, salt and cook for 30 secs to a min

  • Add the cooked potatoes and toss them around so that all the wedges get evenly coated with the spice and oil mixture

  • Preheat an oven to 200 degrees. While it on pre-heat mode arrange all the wedges in a baking tray and keep it ready
  • Push the baking tray into the oven and let it bake for 20-25 mins or until the wedges turn crispy and golden brown
  • After turning off the oven, let it stand for about a minute. Pull out the tray and transfer the wedges to a serving platter. Be careful as the tray you are gonna handle will be very hot

  • Serve them in your kids favorite bowl or plate with some ketchup

Note:
  • Keep an eye on the potatoes when boiling them as you dont want them to turn  tooooo soft. If the wedges are very soft they might mash down or break before we start working on them
  • Careful when adding salt as we are doing it in 2 stages - so dont want to oversalt the stuff
  • Dont overcook the garlic in the pan as they have to be cooked again during the baking process which might turn them bitter
  • Adjust spices to suit your kids taste
