Dragon rolls... the cheesy ones

Dragon rolls.... now these are not the dragon rolls that are like the large spring rolls stuffed with a lot of veggies. We have a restaurant nearby that serves this dish named dragon roll which in nothing but cheese and onions stuffed inside a simple flour wrapper. The stuff is so simple yet my kids and me are so much in love with it. They love it so much that they tend order it most of the times. Now .... last time when we were at the restaurant and were enjoying this starter I felt it was too simple to replicate at home... and so why not try

I was sure about the ingredients because it was pretty simple to make out. Tried making it at home with homemade wrappers and they turned out awesome. The kids gave me full marks for their favourite and they finished it off in no time. They were so excited when they were served something that they love so much. There were showers of praise from those sweet little hearts and I could see they were really true

If you are a cheese lover like us then I am sure you too will fall for it. Try it and enjoy

Serves... 3 ppl
Serve option... Hot

This is what u'll need...

Flour - 1 cup
Oil - 1 tbspn + for frying
Cheese cubes - 4
Onion - 1 big
Salt to taste

Here is the stir....

    • Measure 1 cup of flour into a wide bowl
    • Add a little salt
    • Pour a tablespoon of oil into the flour

    • Rub the oil well into the flour. After a thorough rubbing the mix will look like breadcrumbs. You know if there is enough oil if you press a little flour in your palm and it holds shape else add a little more oil

    • Add water little by little and knead it into a soft yet stiff dough
    • Keep it covered and let rest for 15 minutes
    • Meanwhile finely chop one big onion and toss it into a bowl
    • Use your fingers to run the onion slices to separate the layers
    • Grate the cheese cubes into the bowl
    • Mix everything together and keep it ready
    • Trasfer the dough to a clean work surface and knead it for a couple of minutes before we start using it to make the wrapper.
    • Pinch out a little dough and shape it into a ball
    • Dust the work surface and roll out the dough into a very thin circle

    • Spoon in some cheese mixture into the middle of the dough circle
    • Fold the corners towards the centre from 2 sides
    • Start folding from the other end and in the seal it using a flour-water mixture

    • Make all the rolls in similar way and keep it covered till ready to fry them
    • Heat oil in a kadhai and drop in the rolls few at a time
    • Fry on medium flame for about 30 seconds to a minute. We dont want it to be very crisp. The wrapper should be only a little crisp and a little soft
    • When done, remove the rolls and drain them on paper towels
    • Serve hot with some spicy salsa and enjoy

                                                        Note:
                                                        • Rub the oil well into the flour before adding the water to knead the dough
                                                        • Keep the oil on medium when frying
                                                        • Add more cheese if you like
