Vada curry

Have leftover vadas then try this recipe to make the best and tastiest use of it :)I have heard lots about this recipe from my dad but never tasted it till I got married. Its so delicious and I could never figure out why my mom never tried to make it. My mil makes this simply tasty. You got to try this if you too have never tasted it before.

This is what u'll need....

Chana dal - 1/2 cup - soaked overnight / leftover vadas
Gg paste - 1 tbspn

Green chillies - 4
Onion - 2 medium
Tomato - 1 big
Sambar powder - 1 tbspn
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Salt to taste
Oil
Fennel seeds - 1 tspn
Whole garam masala

Here is the stir....

  • Pressure cook chana dal upto 2 whistle and grind coarsely with little salt
  • Heat a pan and put the chana dal mix like a dosa. Turn and cook on both sides with little oil. Keep this aside. You can also cook this like idlis if you want to. You can use leftover vadas too for this recipe
  • Heat oil in pan and add fennel, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves
  • Toss in chopped onions and cook till lightly brown
  • Put gg paste and slit green chillies into pan and for 2 mins
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook
  • Break chana dal vada or dsa into small pieces and add it to the pan
  • Add a little water to this
  • Mix in sambar powder, salt, turmeric. Cook this for a few mins
  • Once cooked remove from flame

  • Serve hot with idli or dosa and enjoy

 Note:
  • There is enough salt in the vada or dosa that we add to the gravy. So dont add too much
  • Cook for a few mins after adding the spices. This helps the vadas soak up the gravy and the spices to lose their raw smell
